The everyday details, made a little easier
Happy children.
Informed parents.
Practical guidance for your family, from the first nursery visit to the end-of-day goodbye.
A parent-friendly guide. These summaries bring together key nursery information and topics to discuss with our team. The full operational policies and Privacy Notice are available from the nursery and should be read before your child starts.
Keeping children safe
Safeguarding & child protection
Children’s safety comes first. Please share any concern about your child with the nursery manager or ask to speak to the designated safeguarding lead. Concerns about an adult working with children must also be raised promptly.
The full safeguarding procedure explains how concerns are recorded, referrals are made and allegations are handled. Information may need to be shared with safeguarding professionals without parental consent when necessary to protect a child.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. For a nursery concern, call 07927 619 831; email is not an emergency service.
Staff, students & visitors
Parents can ask the manager about the nursery’s safer recruitment, suitability checks, staff training and supervision procedures. Students and visitors follow the nursery’s safeguarding arrangements.
Please arrange visits in advance, follow the arrival instructions and wait for a member of staff. Tell the manager if you have any concern about the conduct of a member of staff, student or visitor.
Premises, equipment & emergencies
Please help keep the entrance secure: close the gate properly, do not let an unknown person follow you in, and hand your child directly to a member of staff.
Ask the team about fire exits, evacuation, emergency closure arrangements and how parents will be contacted. Keep your contact details current and follow staff directions during an emergency.
Outdoor play & outings
Bring suitable clothing for the weather. Tell us about any medical, sensory or mobility needs that may affect outdoor activities.
The registration pack asks for permission for supervised, risk-assessed local walks and outings. Ask the team about the arrangements for any planned outing and the permissions required.
Missing child & uncollected child procedures
A missing or uncollected child is a safeguarding concern. Ask the nursery for the full procedure, including emergency escalation and contact arrangements.
Please collect by 2pm, notify us immediately if delayed and keep emergency contacts and authorised collection details up to date. Children must be handed over directly to an authorised adult.
Health, food & personal care
Illness, infections & absence
Let us know promptly if your child will be absent and explain the reason. Keep an unwell child at home when they are not well enough for nursery or could pass on an infection.
If your child becomes unwell during their session, the team will contact you. Please remain reachable and arrange collection when requested. Ask the nursery about the current exclusion period and return arrangements for a specific illness.
Medicines & individual healthcare plans
Tell us about any medical condition, prescribed medicine, allergy or emergency treatment before your child starts. Bring medicines directly to a member of staff, in their original labelled packaging; do not leave them in a child’s bag.
The registration pack requires written parental instructions and the nursery’s medication procedure. A separate medicine form or healthcare plan may be needed. Inform the team about changes, doses already given and expiry dates.
Accidents & first aid
Please tell the team about existing injuries or anything that may affect your child’s comfort or movement. Ask about the nursery’s accident recording and first-aid arrangements.
If an accident happens, the nursery will explain what occurred and the action taken. Emergency medical help may be sought where necessary; keep telephone numbers and emergency contacts current.
Packed lunches, allergies & safer eating
Children bring a named packed lunch from home. Tell us about allergies, intolerances, dietary restrictions and any eating or swallowing concerns before the first session, and whenever these change.
Agree suitable food, lunch storage and any food restrictions with the team. Prepare food in a way that is appropriate to your child’s development, and ask for guidance if you are unsure. A named water bottle is helpful.
Please do not send food to share with other children without checking first. Birthday treats and cooking activities need agreement and must take account of recorded dietary needs.
Nappies, toileting & intimate care
Bring nappies and wipes if your child needs them, plus spare clothes. Share their usual routine and any skin sensitivities, creams or toileting support needs.
We agree a supportive approach with families, protecting children’s dignity and allowing them to develop at their own pace. Ask for the full intimate-care procedure, including how care and concerns are recorded.
Rest, sleep & comfort
Tell us about your child’s usual sleep, rest and comfort routines. A familiar comfort item may help with settling.
If your child needs sleep during a session, discuss safe sleeping arrangements with the manager before they start. The nursery’s full procedure sets out suitable sleep spaces, supervision and checks.
Hygiene & healthy routines
Please support handwashing before eating and after using the toilet, and send clothes that are suitable for active and messy play. Tell us about any product allergies or skin sensitivities.
Ask about sun protection, drinks and the nursery’s cleaning and hygiene arrangements. Smoking and vaping are not permitted around children at the nursery.
Belonging, learning & support
Admissions & settling in
Contact us with your child’s age, preferred start date and the sessions you need. Places depend on availability and the nursery being able to meet your child’s needs safely.
Before starting, complete the registration information and discuss your child’s routines, interests, languages, comfort items and any additional needs. We agree settling arrangements with you and introduce the team.
Key person, learning & parent partnership
Your child’s key person helps build a familiar relationship and gets to know their interests and development. Share new interests and achievements from home, as well as any worries.
Ask how observations and progress are shared, how next steps are planned and how you can contribute. Learning is supported through play and everyday experiences rather than pressure to meet identical milestones.
SEND, inclusion & equality
Please tell us about any communication, developmental, sensory, medical or physical needs. You can raise a concern at any point; a diagnosis is not needed to begin a conversation about support.
Together we can consider helpful adjustments such as visual cues, objects, simple language, a familiar routine and extra time for transitions. Plans should reflect the individual child and be reviewed with their family.
Ask who coordinates SEND support and how relevant professionals can be involved. We welcome families’ languages, cultures and beliefs and want every child to feel included.
Supporting behaviour & emotions
We aim to help children feel secure, understand feelings and learn how to be with others. Calm boundaries, simple language and consistent encouragement support this learning.
Share approaches that help at home and tell us about changes affecting your child. If behaviour becomes difficult, discuss possible needs and agree consistent support with the team. Children should be treated with kindness and dignity.
Transitions & getting ready for the next step
Let us know about changes at home, new care arrangements or a move to another setting or school. Familiar routines, short explanations and opportunities to practise can make changes easier.
We can talk with you about sharing relevant information with the next setting. School readiness includes communication, relationships, confidence and everyday independence.
Sessions, fees & collection
Attendance & nursery hours
Mini Miners opens Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9am–2pm, during term time. Three sessions provide 15 hours across the week.
Please ask for the current term dates and agree your booked sessions before starting. Tell us promptly about absence and contact the nursery if your plans change.
Fees, funded hours & optional extras
We offer funded and privately paid places within our 15-hour nursery week. Funding depends on eligibility, validation and availability. Ask us about your child’s entitlement and tell us if hours are also claimed elsewhere.
Funded hours are free. Optional extras are itemised separately and are never a condition of taking up a funded place. Parents may opt out, provide reasonable alternatives themselves or speak to us about having a charge waived.
Private session prices, payment dates, charges and notice terms are confirmed before booking. The welcome pack records four weeks’ written notice when leaving. Please request the current Fees and Funding Policies.
Consumables & snacks policy — £20 per month
Purpose. Mini Miners offers an optional nursery-provided package for snacks and agreed personal consumables at £20 per child, per month. It is payable at the beginning of the month after a parent has selected the package in writing. Funded nursery hours remain free.
What the package may cover. Nursery-provided healthy snacks, plus agreed personal consumables used by the child such as nappies, wipes or sun cream where these are required. Dietary needs, allergies, medical needs, cultural preferences and parental consent are recorded before anything is provided. Parents continue to send a labelled packed lunch each day.
Your choice. Parents may decline the £20 package and provide the agreed snacks and personal consumables themselves. Items must be suitable, clearly labelled where appropriate and sufficient for each booked session. Families may also ask us to discuss a reasonable alternative or waiver, particularly where cost would be a barrier.
If items are not provided. A child will never be embarrassed, excluded from ordinary EYFS provision or left without appropriate immediate care because an item has been forgotten. We will use a suitable nursery item where necessary, record what happened and contact the parent. If agreed items are repeatedly missing, we will speak with the parent and ask them either to resume supplying them or to give written agreement for the £20 monthly nursery package. The charge starts only from the agreed date; it is not automatic or retrospective.
What is not charged through this policy. We do not charge families during funded hours for ordinary craft materials, books, toys, equipment, learning resources, staffing, cleaning or other running costs needed to deliver the EYFS. Any separate optional trip or additional activity will be explained and agreed in advance, with an appropriate alternative for children who do not take part.
Changing your option and questions. A parent may ask to change their choice for the next billing period. Please speak to the manager if your child’s needs change, if you are experiencing difficulty paying, or if you believe a charge is incorrect. Concerns can also be raised through our Complaints Procedure.
Authorised collection & late arrival
Collect your child by 2pm and tell us immediately if you are delayed. The registration pack records a £10 late-collection charge for each 10 minutes; ask for the full Late Collection Policy.
Provide details of authorised collectors, emergency contacts and the agreed security word. Let the nursery know about changes in advance; do not rely on a message passed through another family.
Tell us securely about any legal restrictions or court orders affecting collection and provide the relevant documents. Children are released only when collection arrangements have been checked.
Privacy, photographs & concerns
Your family’s information
Mini Miners uses registration and care information to provide childcare, support safeguarding, administer funding and fulfil legal or regulatory duties. Relevant information may be shared lawfully with education, health, local-authority or safeguarding professionals.
Read the registration privacy notice for the purposes, legal reasons, sharing arrangements, retention and your rights. Ask the manager about access or corrections and tell us when your information changes.
To contact the nursery about your information, email nurseryminiminers@gmail.com or call 07927 619 831. Please arrange a secure way to share sensitive child or medical records.
Photographs, videos & online safety
The registration pack asks separately about photographs for learning records, nursery displays and private parent updates. Optional permissions can be changed in writing.
Public website or social-media use needs separate, appropriate permission; permission for a private learning record does not automatically cover public sharing. Please avoid photographing other children at nursery and do not share private images or updates about other families.
Ask the manager about the nursery’s device, camera and online-safety procedures, including how screen use is considered.
Feedback & complaints
If something is worrying you, please speak to your child’s key person or Aqsa. For a formal complaint, email nurseryminiminers@gmail.com with a clear explanation and the outcome you are seeking.
Ask for the full Complaints Policy, which explains who handles the concern, response times, records and escalation. A safeguarding concern should be raised straight away, rather than waiting for a routine complaint response.
You can also contact Ofsted about concerns relating to an early years provider. Use the official guidance linked below for the current process.
Using this website
You can read nursery information and prepare a place-enquiry email using the form on the Apply page. The form does not store or submit information to the website: it prepares a message in your own email app, which you must review and send. No advertising analytics have been added by the nursery.
Do not place National Insurance numbers, eligibility codes, full dates of birth, medical records or identity documents in the enquiry email. The nursery will provide a secure full-registration route after confirming availability.
The hosting service may process technical information and use essential cookies to provide access and security. Links to Google, Facebook and government services open separate websites with their own privacy information. Fonts may be requested from Google Fonts.
For questions about nursery information or personal data, contact the manager and request the full Privacy Notice.
A question is always welcome.
